Keeping in mind that I know absolutely nothing about coding, I think it's pretty cool that I was able to create thatl! On a rare leisurely morning I got lost discovering a treasure trove of websites that will transfrom the most graphically challenged into artistic pros. This link will take you to a site called RedKid.Net where you can create custom signs and turn the most boring text into bling fit for a king!

Last year the California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) launched a branding campaign -- Parks Make Life Better!sm that has been adopted by hundreds of agencies in the Golden State (and a few outside of California, too!). The branding campaign is based on extensive research conducted by CPRS over the past decade.
The visual core of the campaign is the playful logo at the right, but the brand is so much more than the tagline. "A brand is a promise between the organization and it's customers," explains Jane Adams, CPRS Executive Director. "When I see the FedEx brand I know that my package will get where it needs to go on time. When I see the Nordstrom brand I know that I will get great service. When our citizens, guests, policy makers see the Parks Make Life Better! brand we want them to KNOW that parks positively impact six key areas of their lives and their world.
Now and Forever
Expanding on the key areas, CPRS's extensive research confirmed what we, in the profession have always know:
v The public EXPECTS parks to make their lives better.
v Parks and Recreation makes life better now and in the future by providing Access to the serenity and inspiration of nature
v Outdoor space to play and exercise
v Activities for self-directed and organized recreation
v Positive alternatives for youth which help lower crime and mischief
Hands down! Custom-printed calendars are one of the most functional and cost-effective of all advertising tools. Even in this age of smartphones, Blackberries, Outlook and other electronic calendar systems -- there's nothing like a visual wall calendar when it comes to planning time, recreation activities, sports schedules and events. While you can purchase calendars for as low as low as .25 each, I always recommend a 12 month appointment-style wall calendar with beautiful photos that align with your mission -- Healthy Kids, Going Green and Motivation are this year's favorites. Click here to page through an online catalog where you can explore over 100 different calendar themes and styles -- all with GUARANTEED INVENTORY through the end of the year.
The Farmer's Almanac first published in 1818 was the very first promotional product making calendars the original ad specialty. These classic promotional power-tools have stood the test of time AND technology for good reason -- they are a necessity in the office and at home. But don't take my word for it; here are some statistics, based on an independent study conducted by the Calendar Marketing Association, that will further convince you that, when looking for a place to put your logo, web address and contact information -- nothing beats wall calendars.
83% of customers purchase products or services from the company that gave them their calendar. And 94% of calendar recipients can recall the advertising message on their calendar.
The average person working in an office looks at a calendar 12 times a day. Multiply that by 5 business days a week and then by 50 weeks a year. That's 3000 ad impressions a year!
At home the average family views their calendar about 5 times per day. When multiplies by 7 days per week, 365 days a year and your message will be seen (wait, I need to grab my calculator) well over 12,000 times each year.
Think about all of the time, energy, money and paper used in the attempt to get your brochures or flyers in front of your customers throughout the year... compare that to the annual cost of keeping a calendar in front of key contacts day in and day out!
By getting a calendar on the walls of your customers, volunteers, gatekeepers (teachers, real estate agents, doctor's/dentist's offices, etc) you are getting priceless exposure for a teeny tiny price.
One of the best things about calendar marketing is your ability to order very small quantities. Think of 100 people who most influence you customers -- AKA gatekeepers. These might be teachers, school nurses, pediatricians, real estate agents, coaches, sponsors, the list goes on and on. Choose as few as 100 of these influencers. Order 100 imprinted calendars with your web address, logo, tagline or call to action and send or deliver these useful gifts to these gatekeepers. You can even attach a Holiday Letter to the front of the calendar with a special offer, coupon or invitation.
Not only will your calendar be viewed as a kind holiday greeting, but it will hang around for an entire year! But, like all good things -- the window closes on this marketing opportunity. The best time to give calendars is NOW through the end of January. So contact Andy right away and he'll get your order processed right away -- in plenty of time for year-end delivery.
Special Offer for my Blog Readers - When you contact Andy, mention that you're a blog reader and we will pay for your shipping! FREE shipping, big exposure, little price -- it's a perfect year-end promotion! But call NOW - 800-IADVISU - (800-423-8478)!
Minneapolis is such an incredible city with it's parks, lakes, sporting events and above ground, fully enclosed (and heated) Skyway System. Further, the Minnesota weather never fails to spark conversation whether it be heat and humidity (otherwise knows as mosquito season), freezing temperatures (otherwise known as the rest of the year -- just kidding) or hurricane force winds -- like those experienced by this year's NRPA Congress Delegates.
We didn't come for the weather afterall. Rather we came together to share ideas, become inspired and learn new strategies and techniques for solving ongoing and emerging challenges. I was honored to present two workshops this year to hundreds of park and recreation professionals from around the globe. As promised I'm happy to post handouts from both sessions for attendees and blog readers to review and download.
Feel free to use these handouts to share information with your own staff or group. Of course, if you prefer, I'd love to come to YOUR town or community to present these (or any of my other 70+ workshops) in my signature high-energy style.
Ok -- enough with the sales pitch. Here are the handouts ---
California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) conference delegates were introduced to a new branding campaign at their annual conference in Palm Springs. The brand - Parks Make Life Better!SM was launched at the conference general session and continued to be visible throughout the conference. Hands down, however, the most critical component of the brand's launch was the use of a Parks Make Life Better!SM Street Team.
What's a Street Team? Borrowing a concept from the independent music industry, street team members are fans who spread the word about a band, concert -- or in this case a BRAND. The nine member Parks Make Life Better!SM Street Team was very successful in their efforts too share their excitement for the new brand.
In the end, almost 70% of al conference delegates completed a contact form during direct interaction with a Street Team Member. The secret to a street team's success is a combination of enthusiasm, passion and energy. In this case the Street Team was charged with the task of sharing information about the Parks Make Life Better! brand and inviting contacts to stop by the CPRS booth. It also didn't hurt that Street Team members competed with one another to connect and collect the most leads among conference attendees.
With less than three hours of training -- using both a pre-conference webinar and on-site meeting -- the team people chatted, schmoozed, talked and collected interest forms from almost 70% of the conference attendees. This is no small feat since Street Team Members didn't just passively distribute forms. They truly engaged and connected with most of the conference delegates in a very personal way. Street Team Marketing is a very effective form of WOM (Word of Mouth Marketing) and can be used by any organization to promote everything from special events to summer camps.
Learn more about how to use Street Team Marketing in your own agency at an upcoming Parks Make Life Better Workshop.
Last month I had the privilege of helping the California Park and Recreation Society launch the state's first-ever branding campaign: Parks Make Life Better!SM The campaign is much more than a logo and slogan. It is actually the second phase of CPRS's VIP Action Plan which began more than 10 years ago. Parks Make Life Better! is an entire toolkit of communication templates, media and ideas aimed at external audiences.
According to the CPRS webiste:
"The goal of the Parks Make Life Better!SM branding campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits of parks and recreation throughout California and to raise the status of parks and recreation as an essential community service. When all 525 park and recreation agencies in California unite under one banner and communicate clearly and concisely the key messages of the Parks Make Life Better!SM branding campaign, we will reach our brand objectives." The logo and slogan evolved out of extensive research conducted by CPRS over the past several years. It is brilliant in its simplicity. It feels playful and happy and appeals to children as well as adults and seniors. The logo looks amazing on almost every color (you should see it on a black t-shirt) and also looks great in black and white. There is a catalog online of all sorts of promotional products that can be ordered with your agency info along with the the Parks Make Life Better!SM artwork.
For now, the logo on ToolKit are available exclusively to CPRS members, But, this branding toolkit, alone, is well worth the membership fee -- no matter where you live. Get information about joining CPRS here.
Every year we work tirelessly to come up with new designs for you to use on your staff, summer and event t-shirts. We've put all these designs in a brand new catalog (Park Ink from A-Z) and can send it to you lickety split when you email your address to email@example.com. To give you a taste -- I've posted a few pages below.
We offer use of these designs absolutely FREE for our customers so contact firstname.lastname@example.org about your upcoming apparel or promotional needs. How's that for a super-simple solution for you to look like a creative genius with a little help from your favorite promotional experts at the ADVISORS. These ideas are the latest in our ever-expanding logo gallery created especially for parks, recreation and camp customers all over the world.
If you're not familiar with our work -- why the heck not? We are your one-stop shop to all things promotional and have worked in the recreation profession for almost two decades. We understand everything from crazy deadlines to budget constraints. Purchasing departments love us, too. Did I mention that our shirts are on sale; prices are AMAZING (white shirts are $3.95; colored shirts are $4.95 -- and that included a FREE THREE COLOR IMPRINT.) How do we do it? We've been in business for 51 years and have great relationships with our phenomenal suppliers. So, give us a whirl -- we are at your service.
Oh, yeah -- one more thing -- call us at 800.IADVISU (800)423-8478 and a real live, super smart person will actually pick up the phone (or call you back within minutes!). It's almost like the good old days. Sure you can email us, too. But, I promised Andy the phones would ring off the hook -- so don't disappoint.
If you've ever wished that you could find a great spokesperson to endorse your camps, events or programs -- have I got an idea for you! This summer, text-based graphics are hotter than ever (think retailers like Abercrombie, The Gap and Hollister who put their company names on just about everything they sell). Rather than using an illustration, cartoon or graphic to adorn your summer staff or camp shirts (or any promotional item, for that matter) why not add some words of wisdom from a famous person to your camp t-shirts. When choosing a quote make sure you use something that captures the essence of what you, your programs or agency is all about.
The Quotables Collection above (prices are only 3.95 for white shirts and $4.95 for colored shirts INCLUDING your imprint and the quote of your choice. Minimum quantity 144 shirts.)is just the beginning of they ways you can instantly add clout to your agency's logo apparel with no additional charge. We've collected hundreds of quotes that relate to just about every area of parks, nature, volunteerism, camp, recreation, fitness, community and sports of every kind.
I love to bake -- I love experimenting with recipes to try to make them healthier (my latest kick is putting spaghetti squash in my oatmeal cookies instead of oils). I know it sounds weird but it's really good and gives the cookies great texture.) But, since this isn't a baking blog and IS a marketing blog I wanted to share an idea that came across my desk today:
The Holiday Trifecta (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah) are right around the corner. Even people who don't like to bake find themselves invited to participate in Bake Sales and Cookie Exchanges (why not host one at your community center?)
Why not help out your customers by giving them a tasty promotional product this holiday season. Check out these custom - or stock - cookie cutters that can turn your logo into cookies! Add a custom recipe card for healthy holiday treats that includes agency information, a cookie recipe and a special message and you've got a special giveaway that can be shared with the whole family.
Children, moms, grandmas (I'm not being sexist here -- but more than 90% of comsumer holiday backing is done my women)and even the family pet will eat this idea up!
Get a FREE Sample -- If you like this idea and would like a free cookie cutter with sample "romance" card log onto http://www.annclarkpromo.com/category/stock-shape/ to search over 100 shapes perfect for any event theme. Once you've selected the perfect shape for your next event, call ANDY at 800-IADVISU (800-423-8478) and he'll get your samples shipped right away. Or if you don't have time to search -- just email email@example.com and let us know about your upcoming events or activities and we'll find a bunch of promotional ideas to fit your budget and theme -- for FREE.
